De Stijl, Dutch for “The Style”, was a modern art and architecture movement found in the early 20th century. De Stijl architecture represents the spirit of De Stijl on art, which is characterized by the use of rectangular shapes and primary colors, through its ability to transform dynamic space, surface, exterior, and interior.
In our Fresh Water project, the principles of the De Stijl in art, architecture and life are translated into an architectural creation. The project pursues architecture as a synthesis of art forms to improve an aesthetic experience. Geometric shapes of walls with details highlighted by primary colors define the spatial relationship of solids to voids. The exclusive use of clean horizontal and vertical lines, and ‘pure’ red, yellow, and blue color, along with the neutral color (white, grey and black), reconceives the entire living environment.
The De Stijl influence on modern architecture remained considerable long after its birth. The spatial conceptions of the De Stijl have deeply imbedded in subsequent developments of modernist and contemporary architecture. The Fresh Water project reproduces the visual language of abstract art and continues the transformative potential of the De Stijl in life and built environment.
